🫘 Baby chickpea and courgette hummus mash
A soft, salt-free hummus blended with steamed courgette for a lighter, smoother texture. Chickpeas bring plant protein and iron, and tahini introduces sesame.
Makes about 6 baby portions
Ingredients
Method
- Steam the courgette for 6 to 8 minutes until soft.
- Warm the chickpeas in a pan of water for 3 minutes so they blend smoothly, then drain.
- Blend everything together until very smooth, adding a splash of water if needed.
- Serve at room temperature.
Serving it to your baby
Serve on a spoon at 6 months, or spread thinly on soft toast fingers. From 8 months offer it as a dip with steamed vegetable sticks.
For the rest of the family
Make a classic hummus for the family with garlic and salt, keeping baby's portion back first.
Storing and reheating
Keep in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze in portions for up to 1 month. Defrost in the fridge and stir well before serving.

Questions parents ask
Can babies eat shop-bought hummus?
Some shop hummus is quite salty. Homemade without salt is best for babies, or choose a lower-salt brand occasionally.
Do I need to peel chickpeas?
No, blending well gives a smooth enough texture. Warming them first helps.
