🫐 Batch cook pear, apple and blueberry fruit cubes
A deep purple fruit purée of pear, apple and blueberries frozen in cubes, ready to stir into porridge or yoghurt. Blueberries bring vitamin C and colour, and cooking them makes them safe for young babies.
Makes about 20 ice cube portions
Ingredients
Method
- Put everything into a pan with the water.
- Cover and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes until the apple is soft and the blueberries have burst.
- Blend until smooth.
- Cool, spoon into ice cube trays, cover and freeze.
Serving it to your baby
Stir a cube into porridge, yoghurt or semolina rather than serving fruit purées on their own every time, so baby gets used to less sweet foods too. Whole raw blueberries should be squashed flat or quartered for young babies.
For the rest of the family
Spoon over pancakes or stir into overnight oats for adults.
Storing and reheating
Freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost in the fridge overnight and serve cold or warm. Never refreeze defrosted fruit purée.

Questions parents ask
Can babies eat blueberries?
Yes, from around 6 months, cooked in purées or squashed flat as finger food. Whole round blueberries are a choking risk.
Should fruit purées be served warm?
They can be served cold or at room temperature, which is often easier. Warm if you prefer, stirring well.
