🫐 First dairy yoghurt with stewed plum

Plain full-fat yoghurt topped with sweet stewed plum purée, an easy first dairy food. Yoghurt brings calcium and protein, and plums add natural sweetness without any sugar.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Cook the plums with a splash of water for 8 to 10 minutes until collapsed.
  2. Push through a sieve to remove the skins, or blend until smooth.
  3. Cool, then add the vanilla if using.
  4. Swirl a spoonful through the yoghurt and serve.

Serving it to your baby

Offer a new allergen on its own, earlier in the day when baby is well, so you can watch for any reaction over the next couple of hours. Yoghurt and cheese are often good first dairy foods. If baby has a reaction to cow's milk, speak to your GP or health visitor before trying other dairy.

For the rest of the family

Use the stewed plums over porridge or as a quick crumble filling for the family.

Storing and reheating

Stewed plum keeps for 2 days in the fridge or 3 months frozen in cubes. Add to yoghurt cold just before serving.

Questions parents ask

Should I use baby yoghurts or regular yoghurt?

Plain, full-fat, unsweetened yoghurt is ideal. Many baby or toddler yoghurts contain added sugar, so check labels.

Is vanilla OK for babies?

A drop of pure vanilla extract stirred into fruit is fine. Avoid vanilla sugar or flavourings with added sugar.
