Ingredients

Method

  1. Grind the chia seeds in a spice grinder or with a pestle and mortar.
  2. Mix the oats, ground chia, milk and yoghurt in a small jar or bowl.
  3. Stir in the mashed strawberries.
  4. Cover and chill in the fridge overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
  5. Stir well in the morning and loosen with a splash of milk if very thick.

Serving it to your baby

From 7 months, serve on a preloaded spoon. Grinding the oats and chia gives a smoother texture that is easier for new eaters. From 10 months, use whole rolled oats and top with quartered strawberries.

For the rest of the family

Make adult jars with whole chia, a spoon of nut butter and a handful of granola.

Storing and reheating

Keep covered in the fridge and eat within 24 hours. This recipe is not suitable for freezing.

Questions parents ask

Are chia seeds safe for babies?

Yes, in small amounts mixed into soaked or wet foods. Grinding them first helps digestion and stops dry seeds clumping.

Is it safe to serve oats uncooked?

Yes. Rolled oats are heat treated during processing, and soaking softens them so they are easy to eat.
