🍎 Pomegranate for babies: when and how to serve it
Can babies eat pomegranate? Yes, from about 6 months, with care. The jewel-like seeds (arils) are sweet and full of vitamin C, but the crunchy centre means they are best squashed or served to babies who can manage small textures.

How to serve pomegranate by age
6 to 9 months
Press arils through a sieve to collect the juice and stir it into yoghurt or porridge, or crush arils well and mix into soft foods. Mixing pomegranate juice into plain yoghurt gives a fun pink colour and a sweet-sour taste.
9 to 12 months
Offer a few flattened arils for pincer practice, mixed into yoghurt or oatmeal.
12 months and up
Serve whole arils sprinkled over salads, yoghurt and grains once your child chews well.
Choking safety
Arils are small and the inner seed is hard, so they can be a choking risk for young babies. Flatten them or mix into soft food at first, and supervise closely. Keep loose seeds away from young babies' fingers until they are crushed.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
