How to serve wheat biscuits by age
6 to 9 months
Crumble one wheat biscuit into a bowl and soak it in breast milk, formula or whole cow's milk until completely soft, then mash. Stir in mashed banana or puréed berries for flavour. Offer it on pre-loaded spoons your baby can grab.
9 to 12 months
Make the mix a little thicker as your baby gets more confident. Add grated apple, mashed raspberries or a spoon of natural yoghurt, or bake soaked wheat biscuits with banana and egg into soft breakfast bars.
12 months and up
Serve with whole milk and chopped soft fruit, or crumble over yoghurt. Toddlers can also nibble softened wheat biscuit fingers, but dry ones crumble easily.
Choking safety
Dry wheat biscuits are crumbly and can stick in the mouth, so always soak them well for young babies until there are no hard pieces. Serve with your baby upright and supervised.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
