An 11 month old usually manages wake windows of 3 to 4 hours and takes 2 naps a day, each lasting about 1 to 2 hours. Bedtime usually lands somewhere between 6pm and 8pm. Total sleep across 24 hours is typically 12 to 16 hours.
These numbers come from OBubba's own sleep engine for weeks 48 to 51. They are a guide to start from, not a target your baby has to hit.
At a glance
- Wake windows: 3 to 4 hours
- Naps: 2 naps a day
- Nap length: 1 to 2 hours each
- Total day sleep: 2 to 3 hours
- Total sleep in 24 hours: 12 to 16 hours
- Bedtime window: 6pm to 8pm
A sample day
Here is one example of how a day could look, starting with a 7am wake up. It is just one example: babies vary, and so do days.
- 7:00am Wake up for the day, milk feed
- 10:15am Nap 1 (1 hour), after 3 hours 15 minutes awake
- 11:15am Awake
- 2:45pm Nap 2 (1 hour), after 3 hours 30 minutes awake
- 3:45pm Awake
- 7:45pm Asleep for the night, after 4 hours awake (bedtime routine starts around 7:15pm)
That adds up to 2 hours of day sleep. Some babies this age do better with a slightly later first nap and a shorter second one. Small tweaks of 15 minutes are plenty.
What's changing at this age
At eleven months the 2 nap day usually continues, with wake windows of around 3 to 4 hours and total day sleep of about 2 to 3 hours.
Many babies are cruising confidently and some are taking first steps. That burst of physical development, along with growing language and understanding, can make naps feel unpredictable at times.
It is common to wonder whether your baby is ready for 1 nap around now, especially if one nap gets refused. Most babies still benefit from 2 naps, so it is usually worth riding out a few wobbly days before changing anything.
Common sleep problems and gentle fixes
Refusing the afternoon nap
Try nudging the first wake window a little longer so the afternoon nap comes slightly later, and use an earlier bedtime if the nap does not happen.
Early waking
Check day sleep is not at the very top of the range, and keep early mornings dark and quiet.
Walking practice at night
New skills can briefly disrupt sleep. Plenty of daytime practice and a calm night response usually help.
Short naps
If both naps are short but your baby is happy, the total day sleep may simply be what they need right now.
If things feel hard, you are not doing anything wrong. Small, gentle changes made one at a time, and watched for a few days, are usually kinder for everyone than a big overhaul. Look after yourself too: rest when you can, and lean on the people around you.
How OBubba helps
An age chart can only tell you what is typical. OBubba predicts your baby's next nap and bedtime from their own rhythm, not just the numbers on this page, and adjusts through the day as naps run long or short. After around four days of logging, the guidance becomes personal to your baby.

Frequently asked questions
How long should an 11 month old be awake between naps?
Usually 3 to 4 hours.
How many naps does an 11 month old need?
Typically 2 naps, lasting roughly 1 to 2 hours each.
What time should an 11 month old go to bed?
Between 6pm and 8pm suits many babies.
How much day sleep does an 11 month old need?
Total day sleep is often around 2 to 3 hours across 2 naps. If day sleep creeps towards the top of that range and nights become unsettled or mornings very early, a slightly shorter afternoon nap is a gentle thing to try.
Is my 11 month old ready for 1 nap?
Most babies still need 2 naps at this age. A few days of refusing one nap is usually a phase. Keep offering both, and use an earlier bedtime on days one gets missed.
Safety and a gentle reminder
Every sleep, day and night, should follow safer sleep guidance. See The Lullaby Trust safer sleep advice and NHS: helping your baby to sleep. If your baby was born prematurely, use their corrected age when reading these ranges. The ranges are guides, not targets. If you are worried about your baby's sleep, feeding or health, speak to your health visitor or GP.
