How to serve cinnamon by age
6 to 9 months
Stir a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon into porridge, apple or pear purée, or sweet potato mash. Start small, as babies are tasting most flavours for the first time.
9 to 12 months
Add cinnamon to pancakes, baked fruit, muffins sweetened with banana, and mild lamb or chicken stews.
12 months and up
Use cinnamon in family breakfasts, bakes and curries in normal cooking amounts.
Choking safety
Ground cinnamon mixed into food is low risk. Never offer dry ground spice by the spoonful, which can be breathed in and cause coughing. Remove whole cinnamon sticks before serving, as they are hard and splintery.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
