π§ Cottage cheese for babies: when and how to serve it
Can babies eat cottage cheese? Yes, from about 6 months, as long as it is pasteurised and full fat. It is soft, mild and high in protein, and its little curds are a gentle way to help babies get used to lumpier textures.

How to serve cottage cheese by age
6 to 9 months
Choose a plain, full-fat, pasteurised cottage cheese. If the curds seem too lumpy at first, mash or blend them smooth, then stir into fruit or vegetable purΓ©es. For finger food, spread a thin layer on toast fingers or pre-loaded spoons your baby can hold.
9 to 12 months
Serve it as it comes so your baby can practise with the curds. Stir it through pasta with peas, mix into scrambled egg, or offer it as a dip for soft-cooked vegetable sticks and pancake strips.
12 months and up
Offer cottage cheese on crackers or rice cakes, in wraps and sandwiches, or with chopped soft fruit as a snack. It also works well in savoury muffins and baked pancakes.
Choking safety
Cottage cheese is low choking risk because it is soft and moist. Babies may gag a little on the curds when they are new to texture, which is normal and noisy. Mash it smoother at first if needed and always serve with your baby sitting upright.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
