How to serve egg noodles by age
6 to 9 months
Cook plain egg noodles until very soft, a minute or two longer than the packet says. For purée feeders, chop them finely and stir into mashed vegetables. For finger food, offer a small tangle of cooled noodles coated in a little unsalted sauce, such as smooth peanut butter thinned with water.
9 to 12 months
Snip noodles into 3 to 5cm lengths and toss with soft cooked vegetables such as pak choi, peas and grated carrot, plus shredded chicken or egg. Babies will enjoy picking them up in fistfuls.
12 months and up
Serve family stir-fries with noodles cut into shorter lengths, made without soy sauce or with only a splash of reduced-salt soy. Offer a fork alongside fingers.
Choking safety
Long strands can be gathered into a big mouthful, so cut noodles into short lengths and offer small portions at a time. Cook them soft rather than al dente.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
