How to serve peach by age

6 to 9 months

Peel and mash ripe peach, or steam firmer peaches until soft and purée. For finger food, offer large ripe peach halves or wedges with the stone removed; leaving a little skin on helps grip. Frozen peach slices that have been fully thawed are a handy out-of-season option.

9 to 12 months

Offer soft bite-sized pieces of ripe peach, or mix chopped peach into yoghurt and porridge. Grated firm peach is another way to serve it raw.

12 months and up

Serve slices of ripe peach, plain or with yoghurt, oats or ricotta. Ripe peach is also delicious grilled or baked until soft, served with yoghurt.

Choking safety

Always remove the stone, which is a choking hazard. Firm unripe peach can break into hard chunks; choose ripe fruit that squashes easily or cook it first. Peach skin is fuzzy and can be peeled if your baby gags on it.

Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
