How to serve pollock by age
6 to 9 months
Poach, steam or bake until it flakes easily. Check carefully for bones, then mash with potato, white sauce or vegetable purée, or offer soft flakes to pick up.
9 to 12 months
Offer flakes mixed into pasta, rice or soft fishcakes, or as homemade fish fingers baked until just cooked.
12 months and up
Serve baked, in fish pie, curries or homemade fish fingers alongside the family.
Choking safety
Check flakes carefully with your fingers for any bones, even in boneless fillets. Cooked pollock is soft and low risk; overcooking makes it dry, so serve it moist with a sauce.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
