How to serve sultanas by age
6 to 9 months
Soak sultanas in hot water until plump, then blend or finely chop into porridge or purées. Soaked sultanas blended into porridge add natural sweetness so you do not need sugar.
9 to 12 months
Chop soaked sultanas and stir into porridge, yoghurt or homemade muffins.
12 months and up
Offer a few whole sultanas with meals once your toddler chews well, or keep baking them into food. Mixing sultanas with cereal or yoghurt makes them easier to manage.
Choking safety
Whole dried fruit is small and sticky and can lodge in the airway. For babies, soak and chop, or bake into soft foods. Supervise when toddlers eat whole sultanas. Golden sultanas and raisins need the same care.
Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
