A 3 month old usually manages wake windows of 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours and takes 4 naps a day, each lasting about 40 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Bedtime usually lands somewhere between 6pm and 8pm. Total sleep across 24 hours is typically 12 to 16 hours.
These numbers come from OBubba's own sleep engine for weeks 13 to 16. They are a guide to start from, not a target your baby has to hit.

A sample day
Here is one example of how a day could look, starting with a 7am wake up. It is just one example: babies vary, and so do days.
- 7:00am Wake up for the day, milk feed
- 8:15am Nap 1 (1 hour), after 1 hour 15 minutes awake
- 9:15am Awake
- 10:45am Nap 2 (1 hour 15 minutes), after 1 hour 30 minutes awake
- 12:00pm Awake
- 1:45pm Nap 3 (45 minutes), after 1 hour 45 minutes awake
- 2:30pm Awake
- 4:15pm Nap 4 (40 minutes), after 1 hour 45 minutes awake
- 4:55pm Awake
- 6:55pm Asleep for the night, after 2 hours awake (bedtime routine starts around 6:25pm)
That adds up to 3 hours 40 minutes of day sleep. If the last nap is short or skipped, an earlier bedtime within the window is a kind fix.
What's changing at this age
Three months is often when a real bedtime starts to appear. Many babies now settle for the night somewhere between 6pm and 8pm, and a predictable wind-down becomes more useful.
Wake windows take a noticeable step up, to roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours. Your baby can handle more play and more of the world between sleeps, and the day usually still has around 4 naps.
Sleep is also starting to mature in the background. Over the next few weeks many babies move towards a more adult-like sleep pattern, which some families notice as more frequent waking. Our guide to sleep changes around four months walks through it calmly.
Common sleep problems and gentle fixes
Short naps of one sleep cycle
Waking after around 40 minutes is common. If your baby wakes grumpy, try a few minutes of gentle settling. If they wake happy, move on with the day.
Bedtime battles
If bedtime is turning into a long fight, look at the last wake window. It may be too short (not tired enough) or too long (past the sweet spot). Adjust by 15 minutes and watch for a few days.
False starts
A wake 30 to 45 minutes after bedtime is often linked to the end of the day. Try a slightly earlier bedtime or a calmer last hour.
Catnap needed late in the day
A short fourth nap is very normal. It can be in the pram or on you.
If things feel hard, you are not doing anything wrong. Small, gentle changes made one at a time, and watched for a few days, are usually kinder for everyone than a big overhaul. Look after yourself too: rest when you can, and lean on the people around you.
How OBubba helps
An age chart can only tell you what is typical. OBubba predicts your baby's next nap and bedtime from their own rhythm, not just the numbers on this page, and adjusts through the day as naps run long or short. After around four days of logging, the guidance becomes personal to your baby.

Every sleep, day and night, should follow safer sleep guidance. See The Lullaby Trust safer sleep advice and NHS: helping your baby to sleep.
