How to serve tortilla wrap by age

6 to 9 months

Cut soft tortilla into strips and spread with mashed avocado, hummus or nut butter. Lightly toasting can make it easier to grip. Toasting briefly in a dry pan makes strips easier to hold.

9 to 12 months

Make mini quesadillas with cheese and beans cut into triangles, or roll soft fillings in strips. Wholemeal wraps add a little extra fibre.

12 months and up

Offer wraps with fillings, cut into rolls or pinwheels. Soft fillings like hummus, cheese, beans and grated vegetables work best for toddlers.

Choking safety

Soft tortilla can form a sticky lump. Spread thinly, serve with moist fillings, or toast lightly to firm it up.

Gagging is common and noisy while babies learn to eat. Choking is usually silent. Always stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright. How to help a choking baby (NHS).
